Katan Kawiñ is a ritual of the Mapuche people where the woman has a meaning with a higher power «the woman is the extension of the Earth, is the key to life and her mind is the womb to conceive and shape the invisible world. «

This will be the first ethnic ritual in the life of the Mapuche woman. The ritual consists of ear piercing that was practiced in the early years of the girls’ lives.

In this project I represent three steps of the ritual: The Needle as the piercing instrument, the Silver Mark as the transfer of identity and the Scarring as the termination and acceptance of the ritual.

The piece Identidad fragmentada (Fragmented Identity) is born from the personal vision of the current view of ethnic identity.

Katan Kawiñ es un ritual del pueblo Mapuche en donde la mujer tiene un significado con un poder superior » la mujer es la extensión de la Tierra, es la clave de la vida y su mente es el útero para concebir y dar forma al mundo invisible. «

​Este será el primer ritual étnico en la vida de la mujer Mapuche. El ritual consiste en la perforación de la oreja que se practicaba en los primeros años de la vida de las niñas.

En este proyecto represento tres pasos del ritual: La Aguja como instrumento de perforación, la Marca de plata como la  transferencia de la identidad y la Cicatrización como la terminación y aceptación del ritual.

La pieza  Identidad fragmentada nace de la visión personal de la mirada actual ante la Identidad étnica.
